Handelsbanken Reports Third-Quarter Profit Rise Amid Annual Decline
Handelsbanken reported a 10% quarterly increase in operating profit to 7.35 billion Swedish crowns, though annual profits fell 4% from the previous year.
Handelsbanken reported a 10% increase in third-quarter operating profit, reaching 7.35 billion Swedish crowns. This growth was driven by a 4% rise in income to 13.96 billion crowns and a 1% reduction in expenses. Net fee and commission income rose 6% to 3.33 billion crowns, and assets under management hit a record 1,508 billion crowns.
Despite the quarterly gain, the bank's operating profit fell 4% compared to the 7.69 billion crowns reported in the same period a year earlier. For the first nine months of 2026, operating profit declined 3% to 22.23 billion crowns. Following the announcement, the bank's shares fell 3.5%.
In a regulatory development, the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority approved a new model for household exposures. This change is expected to reduce the bank's capital requirements by approximately 3 billion crowns during the fourth quarter.
