Home Office Pauses Asylum Housing at Gronant Institute

MP Becky Gittins announced that asylum seekers have been relocated from the Gronant Institute site while the Home Office reconsidered the property's suitability.

Member of Parliament Becky Gittins announced that no asylum seekers are currently being housed at the former Gronant Institute near Prestatyn. Any individuals who had moved into the 15-home development last week have been relocated to other sites.

The property was under consideration for lease to Clear Springs Ready Homes, a company utilized by the Home Office for the Asylum Dispersal Scheme. Gittins secured the update after meeting with Home Office officials to argue that the site is unsuitable for asylum accommodation, citing concerns raised by local residents.

While further moves into the property are paused for consideration, Clwyd MS Darren Millar criticized the Home Office for failing to engage with elected representatives and the local community. Millar described the lack of communication regarding the housing plan as "totally unacceptable."
