Romania New Car Registrations Drop in July and Q2 2026
Romania experienced a significant decline in new vehicle registrations during July and the second quarter of 2026 across passenger and goods transport sectors.
Romania's automotive market faced a sharp downturn in mid-2026, with new car registrations falling significantly across both quarterly and monthly reporting periods. Data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography showed that new registrations for passenger transport vehicles decreased by 7.6% in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. New registrations for goods transport vehicles also declined by 4.5% year-on-year during the second quarter.
The downward trend accelerated into the third quarter. Preliminary data published by the Association of Automotive Manufacturers and Importers revealed that new car registrations in July 2026 plummeted by 28.2% compared to July 2025, with only 11,633 units registered. This monthly figure was based on information provided by the General Directorate for Driving Licenses and Registrations.
