Tata Motors Q1 Profit Jumps 83% to ₹2,560 Crore

Tata Motors reported an 83% increase in first-quarter net profit driven by strong commercial vehicle volumes and strategic investments.

Tata Motors reported a consolidated net profit of ₹2,560 crore for the first quarter of the 2026-27 financial year, marking an 83% increase year-on-year. Revenue rose 19.3% to ₹20,667 crore, supported by market-share gains, strong commercial vehicle volumes, and a mark-to-market gain on its investment in Tata Capital.

Despite a 26% rise in domestic commercial vehicle volumes, commodity inflation reduced margins by approximately 3.8%. In response, the company implemented price hikes and signaled further increases to protect profitability. Managing Director and CEO Girish Wagh attributed the demand for heavy commercial vehicles to infrastructure activity and fleet replacement.

The company is expanding its global and digital footprint, with the acquisition of Iveco expected to close by early November 2026 pending French regulatory approval. Tata Motors also increased its stake in the logistics platform Freight Tiger to 63.6% and is continuing pilot projects for hydrogen-powered trucks in collaboration with Indian Oil Corporation.
