The Government of the United Kingdom provides automatic Blue Badge eligibility for disabled individuals aged three and older who receive specific Department for Work and Pensions benefits.
The Government of the United Kingdom provides automatic Blue Badge eligibility for disabled individuals aged three and older who receive specific benefits from the Department for Work and Pensions. Automatic qualification applies to those receiving the higher-rate mobility component of Disability Living Allowance, the War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement, or qualifying payments under the Armed Forces Compensation Scheme. Registered blind individuals also qualify automatically.
Certain Personal Independence Payment recipients qualify based on specific scores. This includes those with 8 or more points under moving around who cannot walk more than 50 metres, or 10 points under descriptor E for planning and following journeys due to overwhelming psychological distress.
Individuals who do not meet these automatic criteria may still be eligible through assessments conducted by their local council. These assessments cover conditions such as life-limiting illnesses, hidden disabilities, or severe walking difficulties. Applications are processed online through the government's Blue Badge service, and non-automatic assessments may take 12 weeks or longer to complete.
