Lula Lead Narrows as Son Faces Corruption Probe

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva saw his lead over challenger Flávio Bolsonaro narrow to 4.5 percentage points ahead of Brazil's October 4 election. An AtlasIntel survey shows Lula leading 47.1% to 42.6% in a runoff scenario, a decline from the 6-point lead he held in July.

The shift follows federal investigations into corruption and influence peddling involving the president's son, Fábio Luís Lula da Silva. The probe focuses on medical cannabis programs linked to the health ministry. While Lula stated he will not protect his son, he expressed certainty that he "will be found innocent."

Flávio Bolsonaro has not yet gained significant momentum from the scandal. He continues to face his own legal challenges after a Supreme Court justice authorized a probe into his ties to Daniel Vorcaro, a figure in a bank fraud investigation. The probe stems from allegations that Bolsonaro sought funding for a film about his father. Despite the pressure on the president, Bolsonaro remains the candidate with the highest rejection rate.
