Apple Releases iOS 27 With Stealth Location Hiding

Apple Inc. released iOS 27, introducing a privacy feature that allows users to temporarily hide their location from specific people without triggering a notification. This marks a shift from previous versions of the operating system, where stopping location sharing generated a visible update within the iMessage chain.

Under the new system, recipients only discover the change if they manually check the map or the Find My app. In those instances, the status appears as "No location found" and "Off-Network," mimicking a device that is powered off or lacks cellular service.

Apple stated the feature is intended for scenarios such as planning surprise parties. However, the company expects the update to be used for broader privacy needs, including enhancing safety in abusive relationships or avoiding parental supervision.
