Pakistan Coordinates Makkah Defence Alliance with Regional Allies

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar conducted a series of telephone conversations on September 6, 2026, to advance the Makkah Defence Alliance. Dar coordinated with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan to implement understandings reached during the Strategic Political and Defence Committee's inaugural meeting in Istanbul on August 31.

The alliance is based on a mutual defense pact signed on August 7 by Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, with Turkiye participating in the follow-up mechanism. The ministers agreed to maintain regular contact to strengthen cooperation through the alliance and other multilateral platforms.

Parallel diplomatic efforts focused on broader regional stability. Prince Faisal bin Farhan spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi to review security developments. Additionally, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty invited Dar to visit Egypt, with both officials agreeing to meet during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly to discuss regional security.
