Developers Propose 1,895 Homes Near Keynsham Ahead of Local Plan

Four developers have submitted five planning applications to build 1,895 homes across Keynsham, Saltford, Hicks Gate, and Whitchurch village. The proposals precede the finalization of the Bath and North East Somerset Council new Local Plan, which is designed to meet a government target of 27,000 homes by 2043.

Barwood proposed 950 homes in Whitchurch, while Crest Nicholson submitted plans for 550 homes at Hicks Gate and 90 homes in Saltford. Additional applications include 200 homes in west Keynsham by Persimmon and 105 homes in east Keynsham by Taylor Wimpey. Developers argue that early submissions help address a chronic housing shortfall.

Councillor Andy Wait objected to the applications, claiming they attempt to bypass the due diligence of the Local Plan process. He noted that the sites are part of a wider strategic process intended to support infrastructure improvements and avoid a piecemeal approach to development.
