Uber Autonomous Mobility Head Sarfraz Maredia to Depart Company
Sarfraz Maredia will leave Uber Technologies Inc. on November 16 amid leadership turnover and a 10 percent global workforce reduction.
Sarfraz Maredia, the executive overseeing global autonomous mobility and delivery at Uber Technologies Inc., will depart the company on November 16 to take a leadership role in another industry. His responsibilities will be split between Samarth Kejriwal and Aaron Emrich.
Maredia's exit follows a pattern of leadership turnover within Uber's autonomous division this year. Previous departures include Lando Juarez, who joined Bedrock Robotics Inc. in June, and Guy Peterson, who moved to Also as chief business officer.
This restructuring occurs as Uber manages the collapse of key partnerships with Waymo and Serve Robotics Inc. Despite these challenges, the company has committed more than $10 billion toward the commercialization of self-driving technology. To simplify operations and reallocate spending across its ride-sharing, delivery, and robotaxi sectors, Uber recently reduced its global workforce by approximately 10 percent, resulting in about 3,300 job cuts.
