The Nigerian Army is sending 600 personnel to India for specialized jungle and mountain warfare training to improve combat proficiency against terrorists and insurgents.
The Nigerian Army has begun deploying 600 personnel to India for specialized training in jungle and mountain warfare. The initiative aims to improve combat proficiency in difficult terrains and strengthen the military's ability to combat terrorists, insurgents, and criminal elements operating in forests and mountainous regions.
The first group of 300 soldiers departed from Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on October 22, 2026. The personnel were transported using two Indian Air Force aircraft, specifically a C-17 and an Airbus A321. Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu initiated the deployment to enhance the army's capacity to protect national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Coordinated by the Nigerian Military Training Support and Advisory Team, the program is designed to reinforce defense cooperation between Nigeria and India. Arrangements are currently underway to airlift the remaining 300 personnel in the coming days.
