Ukraine Opens First Military Drone Factory in United Kingdom

The Ukrainian drone developer Ukrspecsystems opened the first Ukrainian military production plant in the United Kingdom on February 25, 2026. The £200 million investment includes an 11,000-square-meter manufacturing warehouse near Mildenhall, Suffolk, and a testing and training center in Elmsett. The facility operates as part of the 1Force consortium, alongside Eagle Eye Innovations Ltd and Digital Concepts Engineering Ltd, and is supported by Freeport East.

The plant produces reconnaissance drones, including the Shark and Mini-Shark models, for delivery to Ukrainian troops. By establishing production in Britain, Ukraine creates a second line of resilience to ensure continuity when domestic infrastructure is targeted by Russian missile attacks. While manufacturing is now integrated into the British defense sector, engineering expertise remains in Ukraine to incorporate frontline battlefield data.

UK Minister for Defence Readiness and Industry Luke Pollard and Ukrainian Ambassador Valerii Zaluzhnyi unveiled the site, which is expected to create approximately 500 jobs in East Anglia. The project is positioned as part of a broader UK-Ukraine 100-Year Partnership aimed at strengthening sovereign drone programs and ensuring NATO-standard interoperability. Ukrainian Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov noted that there is a limited window to capitalize on these industrial gains before Russian forces adapt to the technology.
