Bruce Power Invests $13.3 Billion in Canadian Nuclear Economy
Bruce Power is investing $13.3 billion in Canada over 18 months to support nuclear expansion and medical isotope production while prioritizing domestic suppliers.
Bruce Power announced that its Canadian at our Core initiative will generate an economic impact exceeding $13.3 billion in Canada over the next 18 months. The company reports that more than 95 per cent of its total spending remains within the country, having spent $6.6 billion between January 2025 and June 2026, with an additional $7.7 billion planned through 2027.
This investment supports the expansion of nuclear energy in Ontario and the production of cancer-fighting medical isotopes, specifically Cobalt-60 and Lutetium-177. The strategy includes $2.7 billion in agreements with Canadian suppliers and a $250-million partnership expansion with the Saugeen Ojibway Nation to deliver economic benefits and medical isotopes.
Ontario government officials framed the initiative as a strategic defense of the domestic economy. Minister of Energy and Mines Stephen Lecce linked the spending to protecting Canadian workers amid threats from U.S. President Donald Trump, while Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade Vic Fedeli stated the move would strengthen the resilience of domestic supply chains.
