Samsung and Apple Cut Smartphone Component Orders Over Memory Costs

Samsung Electronics and Apple are reducing fourth-quarter component orders due to rising memory prices, though foldable display shipments are forecast to grow by 44 percent.

Samsung Electronics and Apple are reducing smartphone component orders for the fourth quarter of 2026, citing soaring memory prices that have squeezed profit margins. Samsung's mobile division requested delivery cuts of 20% to 30%, while Apple reduced October orders for certain iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max parts by 15% to 20%.

This pullback threatens Samsung Display, which derives approximately 62.8% of its revenue from these two companies. The reduction in premium OLED orders comes as iPhone 18 Pro pricing was increased in South Korea.

Conversely, the foldable smartphone market is rebounding. Shipments of AMOLED displays for foldables are forecast to reach 29 million units in 2026, a 44% increase. This growth is driven by the introduction of wider-screen book-type designs, including the newly released iPhone Duo and the Galaxy Fold8.

Samsung Display serves as the exclusive supplier for both the iPhone Duo and the Galaxy Fold8. The company is projected to hold a 66% share of the global foldable display market in 2026.
