E20 Janta Party Demands Pure Petrol Option in India

The E20 Janta Party launched a campaign demanding that Indian motorists be given the choice to purchase 100% pure petrol over ethanol-blended fuel.

The E20 Janta Party, a citizen-led consumer rights movement, launched on July 26, 2026, demanding that the Indian government restore the option for motorists to purchase 100% pure petrol alongside ethanol-blended fuels. The group argues that the government's shift to E20 fuel as the default since April 1, 2026, eliminated consumer choice and raised concerns over engine compatibility, maintenance costs, and reduced mileage.

Inspired by the meme-driven dissent of the Cockroach Janta Party, the movement has gained rapid traction on social media, amassing over 25,000 followers on X. The group's five-point charter seeks transparent fuel labeling, public data on blend impacts, and independent scientific studies on vehicle performance. The campaign has since expanded its demands to include the resignation of Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.

The movement is supported by the Delhi Taxi and Tourist Transporters and Tour Operators Association, which has scheduled a march to Parliament on August 4. In response, Minister of State for Petroleum Suresh Gopi stated there is no substantiated evidence of widespread engine failure caused by the blended fuel. The E20 Janta Party maintains that it is not seeking a withdrawal of E20 fuel or subsidies, but rather the freedom for consumers to choose their fuel.
