Roy Stockton Leads Tight Vacaville Mayoral Race

City Councilmember Roy Stockton holds a narrow lead over Sarah Chapman in the Vacaville mayoral race as thousands of ballots remain to be counted.

City Councilmember Roy Stockton holds a narrow lead in the Vacaville mayoral race following the November 3 general election. As of November 7, the Solano County Registrar of Voters reports Stockton with 16,061 votes (50.11%) and Councilmember Sarah Chapman with 15,988 votes (48.89%), a margin of 73 votes.

The lead has shifted multiple times during the counting process. Chapman initially led via early mail-in ballots, but Stockton overtook her by midnight Tuesday. Chapman briefly regained a six-vote lead on Thursday before Stockton reclaimed the lead on Friday. Both candidates have characterized the current results as unofficial.

Approximately 13,650 ballots remain pending, including 10,000 mail-in, 2,000 provisional, 1,000 damaged, and 650 envelopes with signature issues. Stockton, a sergeant at the Solano County Sheriff’s Office, campaigned on public safety and planned growth. Chapman, the city's first Black vice mayor, focused on diversifying the local economy to reduce the city's financial deficit.

In other local contests, Jeanette Wylie leads her re-election bid for District 6, while Tom Chalk and John Vogel lead races for Districts 2 and 4, respectively. Additionally, Michael Silva currently leads incumbent Mayor John Carli for a seat on the Solano County Board of Supervisors.
