Nvidia Negotiates Acquisition of Reflection AI

Nvidia is in early-stage talks to acquire or increase its investment in open-weight model developer Reflection AI.

Nvidia is in early-stage negotiations to either acquire Reflection AI or expand its existing investment in the startup. Potential deal structures include a full acquisition, an acqui-hire focused on staff recruitment and technology licensing to avoid regulatory scrutiny, or the provision of additional equity and computing power. While sources indicate a deal could be reached within weeks, the discussions remain uncertain.

Founded in 2024 by former Google and DeepMind researchers Misha Laskin and Ioannis Antonoglou, Reflection AI recently launched Beam, its first open-weight model. The company is positioned as a domestic competitor to Chinese developers such as DeepSeek and has established strategic partnerships with the Pentagon, the U.S. Department of Energy, and South Korea.

Nvidia is already a significant shareholder in the company, having previously invested 800 million dollars. Reflection AI was valued at 25 billion dollars during a funding round in March.
