Ukrainian Drone Strike Halts Russia's Largest Oil Refinery
Ukraine executed a long-range drone attack on the Omsk oil refinery in Siberia, damaging key distillation units and halting production.
A long-range drone attack by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine halted operations at the Omsk oil refinery in Siberia on Monday. The strike damaged the CDU-10 crude distillation unit, causing a fire and disabling approximately 38% of the plant's total production capacity. A second unit, CDU-11, was also shut down after the attack damaged essential network links.
Following the disruption, the refinery stopped selling gasoline and diesel on the Saint Petersburg International Mercantile Exchange on Tuesday. The plant, owned by Gazprom Neft and recognized as Russia's largest oil refinery and top petrol producer, may attempt to offset the losses by restarting two mothballed refining units, CDU-7 and CDU-8.
Anatoly Seryshev, President Vladimir Putin's representative in Siberia, confirmed that facilities at the refinery were damaged but stated that no plant personnel were injured. The disruption is expected to worsen fuel shortages across Russia.
