Jon Husted Defends Trump Energy Policies at Ohio Steel Plant
Ohio Senator Jon Husted blamed Democratic climate policies for rising electricity costs during a visit to a Cleveland-Cliffs steel plant in Middletown.
Ohio Senator Jon Husted defended the energy and economic policies of President Donald Trump during a visit to a Cleveland-Cliffs steel plant in Middletown, Ohio. Accompanied by Vice President JD Vance, Husted attributed rising electricity prices to radical climate policies from the Obama and Biden administrations, which he claimed led to the closure of 23 power plants in Ohio.
The remarks follow a warning from the National Republican Senatorial Committee, which issued a memo describing public anxiety over utility costs linked to data center construction as a sleeper issue that could jeopardize GOP Senate seats. This concern is highlighted by a proposed 10-gigawatt data center campus in Pike County costing over $500 billion.
During the event, Husted highlighted a $1 billion investment in the Middletown facility. The funding consists of a $500 million grant from the United States Department of Energy and a matching $500 million contribution from Cleveland-Cliffs to upgrade artificial intelligence technologies and blast furnaces.
