Green Party Members Push to Label Zionism as Racism

The Green Party is experiencing internal tension following a members' vote that prioritized a motion declaring Zionism as racism. The proposal, scheduled for debate at the party conference in Brighton, calls for the establishment of a single democratic Palestinian state across all of historic Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital. The motion further asserts that the Palestinian people possess a right to liberation and resistance.

If adopted, the party would officially treat Zionism as a form of racism, a move that could trigger disciplinary action against members who support the ideology. The proposal has created a leadership challenge for Zack Polanski, the leader of the Greens in England and Wales. While Polanski has not spoken publicly on the matter, reports indicate he has reservations and fears the policy may alienate Jewish supporters.

Some party members view Polanski's silence as a test of his ability to lead and challenge left-leaning members previously associated with Jeremy Corbyn. In response to the controversy, two amendments have been tabled to tone down the language of the motion, which Polanski reportedly supports.
