Tech Stock Selloff May Ease Federal Reserve Inflation Pressure
A Nasdaq 100 correction and S&P 500 decline may reduce pressure on the Federal Reserve to aggressively manage inflation as AI-driven demand cools.
A significant selloff in technology stocks has pushed the Nasdaq 100 into its third correction of 2026, with the S&P 500 falling 1.8% on Friday. This market downturn may reduce the pressure on the Federal Reserve System to aggressively manage inflation by cooling AI-driven demand for skilled labor, land, and corporate debt, which has previously driven up costs for data center construction.
Despite this market volatility, Federal Reserve Chair Walsh maintains a hawkish stance. He cited a strong economy and inflation levels that remain above target, fueling expectations that the central bank may tighten policy again in December.
Similar hawkish trends are appearing in Europe. The European Central Bank is expected to maintain its current policy tilt following the announcement that President Christine Lagarde will step down from her position.
