The Central Military Commission of China and the Military of Mongolia launched the Steppe Partner 2026 joint army training exercise on May 30, 2026. Held in Inner Mongolia, China, the maneuvers mark the second iteration of this joint training series designed to enhance regional peace, stability, and mutual trust between the two nations.
More than 600 officers and soldiers attended the opening ceremony. The Chinese contingent is primarily composed of armored troops from a brigade under the PLA 79th Group Army. The training focuses on the establishment of a joint command structure to execute coordinated strike operations within simulated combat scenarios.
These exercises specifically target the ability to conduct strikes against illegal armed groups. By practicing these coordinated operations, both militaries aim to deepen practical cooperation and strengthen their joint response capabilities.
