Former Meta Leader Launches Executive Coaching Business Refactor Labs

Jason Shen left a high-paying role at Meta to found Refactor Labs, generating $369,000 in annual revenue while working 20 hours per week.

Jason Shen, a former product leader at Meta, resigned from the technology company in June 2023 to establish Refactor Labs, an executive coaching and cofounder conflict consultancy based in Brooklyn. Shen joined Meta in 2020 through the acquisition of the voice AI gaming company Midgame. He cited burnout, organizational instability following mass layoffs, and dissatisfaction with the company's performance review system as the primary drivers for his departure.

To pursue this venture, Shen forfeited approximately $250,000 in target cash compensation and unvested restricted stock units valued at roughly $1.68 million. Following a sabbatical, he formally launched Refactor Labs in January 2024. The business operates on a retainer model, charging founders starting rates of $4,000 per month.

Over the last 12 months, Shen reports generating $369,000 in revenue while working approximately 20 hours per week. He is currently writing a book titled "Deep Ambition" and has set a financial goal to surpass his previous Big Tech total compensation by 2028.
