Google Launches Pixel Watch 5 with AI Health Guardian

Google unveiled the Pixel Watch 5 featuring the Health Guardian suite for AI-driven monitoring of insulin resistance, blood pressure, and breathing emergencies.

Google unveiled the Pixel Watch 5 on August 12, 2026, at an event in New York, introducing a suite of AI-driven health capabilities called Health Guardian. The smartwatch is available in 41mm and 45mm sizes, powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 platform with 3 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. It runs Wear OS 7 and integrates Gemini AI for contextual assistance.

The Health Guardian suite introduces passive monitoring for blood pressure and insulin resistance trends. Rather than measuring glucose directly, the insulin resistance tool uses AI to analyze data from heart rate, skin temperature, barometer, and accelerometer sensors. The suite also includes Breathing Emergency Detection, which uses an AI-based algorithm to detect drops in oxygen saturation during events such as choking or drug overdoses and can automatically contact emergency services. While this specific feature is initially limited to select European Union markets pending FDA clearance, other Health Guardian features will roll out to Pixel Watch 3 and 4 models.

Additionally, Google is integrating data from Abbott Laboratories’ Lingo continuous glucose monitor into the Google Health app. Pricing for the Pixel Watch 5 starts at $399 for the 41mm Wi-Fi model and $529 for the 45mm LTE variant. A special Stephen Curry edition is priced at $579.99 and will launch on September 3. The device arrives in stores on August 20.
