China Condemns U.S. Semiconductor Controls and Forced Labor Tariffs

The Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China criticized U.S. trade restrictions and semiconductor export controls as discriminatory and politically motivated.

The Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China expressed firm opposition to unilateral restrictive measures and tariffs imposed by the United States during a news briefing on June 4, 2026. Spokesperson He Yongqian condemned the use of Section 301 investigations and the proposal for additional tariffs targeting economies accused of using forced labor, characterizing these actions as unjustified, politically motivated, and a hindrance to normal economic cooperation.

China specifically criticized the United States Department of Commerce for closing regulatory loopholes in semiconductor exports under the pretext of national security. He Yongqian asserted that these discriminatory practices directly harm Chinese companies and disrupt global semiconductor supply chains. The ministry argued that such disruptions threaten the stability of the international trade order and impede global economic growth.

The Chinese government urged the United States to correct these policies and strengthen constructive dialogue to maintain stable bilateral economic and trade relations. By calling for a reversal of these restrictive measures, the ministry emphasized that cooperation between the two largest economies is essential to preserve supply-chain stability and ensure a predictable environment for international commerce.
