India Condemns Pakistan Over Afghan Strikes and Kashmir Crackdown

India accused Pakistan of committing massacres in Afghanistan and Kashmir during a UN Security Council session and subsequent diplomatic statements.

During a United Nations Security Council meeting on June 8 and 9, 2026, Parvathaneni Harish, India's Permanent Representative to the UN, launched a diplomatic offensive against Pakistan. Harish condemned Pakistani military airstrikes in Afghanistan, citing UNAMA data that 372 civilians were killed and 397 injured in early 2026. He specifically highlighted a March 16 strike on the Omid Drug Rehabilitation Hospital in Kabul that killed at least 269 people, characterizing the violence as a massacre. Additionally, India accused Pakistan of trade and transit terrorism for blocking Afghan merchants' access to trade routes in violation of WTO norms.

In response, Pakistan's Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar Ahmad questioned the credibility of UNAMA reporting, alleging that killed terrorists were misclassified as civilians. He asserted that Pakistan would continue to respond in self-defense against Afghanistan-based terrorist groups and accused India of acting as a historic spoiler by sponsoring proxy warfare to destabilize Pakistan.

Parallel to the UN session, India's Ministry of External Affairs condemned a brutal crackdown by Pakistani security forces against protesters in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Following the banning of the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), clashes in Rawalakot and other areas reportedly left over 30 people dead. Indian spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal accused Islamabad of using a fake news campaign to mask systemic failures and police brutality.

Amidst the conflict, India advocated for an overhaul of UN sanctions on Afghanistan to prioritize humanitarian welfare over punitive tools. Harish detailed India's support for the region, including 500 development projects across 34 provinces and the provision of 50,000 tonnes of wheat since 2021.
