Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Approves Agniveer Quotas and ₹24,500 Crore Projects

The Cabinet of Madhya Pradesh, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, approved a 20% horizontal reservation for Agniveers in state uniformed services on September 29, 2026. The quota applies to positions including police constables, prison guards, forest guards, and excise constables. This decision follows significant 2022 protests against the central government's Agnipath scheme, particularly in the Gwalior-Chambal region. The Cabinet also established additional reservations of 10% for homeguards and 5% for ex-servicemen in these roles.

During the same session, the government authorized development and public welfare proposals totaling more than ₹24,500 crore. Major allocations include ₹5,329.17 crore for guest teacher honorariums through 2031 and ₹4,470.30 crore for a 105.10-kilometre four-lane highway connecting Damoh and Katni. Health infrastructure investments include ₹3,245.80 crore for health center construction and drug regulation, alongside the expansion of Singrauli District Hospital and the construction of the Chhindwara Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital.

Further approvals covered irrigation projects in Datia, Neemuch, and Sagar, as well as judicial infrastructure. To prepare for Simhastha 2028, the Cabinet sanctioned the Kanh Diversion Closed Duct Project in Ujjain to prevent river pollution.
