Justice Department Probes Corey Lewandowski for DHS Corruption
The United States Department of Justice is investigating Corey Lewandowski for allegedly using his Department of Homeland Security position for personal financial gain.
The United States Department of Justice is examining allegations that Corey Lewandowski used his role at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for personal financial gain. The inquiry began after a referral from the DHS inspector general, which found evidence that Lewandowski may have improperly awarded government contracts and sought side employment from Middle Eastern countries to assist with visa issues.
Lewandowski served as a Special Government Employee and top adviser to former Secretary Kristi Noem. In this capacity, he allegedly signed off on nearly all department spending exceeding 100,000 dollars. Current Secretary of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin has received briefings regarding the investigation.
A representative for Lewandowski denies any wrongdoing, stating that he served in a voluntary capacity and has not been contacted by the Justice Department. This review represents the first known instance of the current administration's Justice Department scrutinizing an individual close to President Donald Trump.
