Aldi Invests £670 Million in UK Store Upgrades and Expansion

Aldi UK is implementing a £300 million investment programme to refurbish existing stores across the United Kingdom throughout 2026. As part of this initiative, the retailer is upgrading approximately 25 stores this summer, focusing on creating more shopping space and introducing sustainable features such as natural refrigerants and energy-efficient fridge doors to reduce carbon emissions.

Refurbishments include extensions for wider aisles at locations in York, Liverpool, and Yarm. Selected stores will also receive upgrades to their bakery, fresh food, and health and beauty sections. Specific sites scheduled for summer work include the Harrogate supermarket on Oak Beck Road, the Yarm Lane branch in Stockton, and the Bramley store in Leeds. In Scotland, upgrades are planned for stores in Musselburgh, Polmont, Aberdeen, and Montrose.

This refurbishment drive runs parallel to a separate £370 million commitment to open new stores nationwide. These expansion plans include a £6 million site in Norton scheduled for autumn and a proposed new store in Eastfield, Scarborough.
