Xavier Becerra Leads Steve Hilton in California Governor's Race

Democratic candidate Xavier Becerra holds a significant lead over Republican Steve Hilton in the race for Governor of California, according to September polling. A UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies poll released September 24 shows Becerra leading 58% to 33%, an increase from August when he held 55% support. This poll highlights Becerra's strength in Los Angeles County and the Bay Area, as well as among non-partisan voters.

A separate poll commissioned by the Hilton campaign and conducted by Echelon Insights shows a narrower gap, with Becerra leading 52% to 37%. While Becerra maintains the lead in overall support, the Echelon data suggests both candidates share similar favorability ratings of 32%, though Becerra carries a higher unfavorable rating.

Republican candidate Steve Hilton, a former Fox News host endorsed by Donald Trump, argues that voters are frustrated with Democratic policies in Sacramento. Voter priorities for the November 3 election include the cost of living, which 44% of likely voters cite as their primary concern, and opposition to Trump administration policies. Ballots are scheduled to be mailed early next month.
