House Speaker Mike Johnson Declines to Condemn Anti-Muslim Rhetoric

Several Republican members of the U.S. House of Representatives have faced criticism for rhetoric targeting Muslim Americans. Representative Derrick Van Orden described Islam as a "violent religion" that does not align with modern Western thought, while Representative Nancy Mace claimed that Muslims in public office are "a trojan horse and a threat to national security."

Other members used similarly inflammatory language. Representative Andy Ogles stated that Muslims do not belong in American society, and Representative Randy Fine suggested a preference for dogs over Muslims.

Mike Johnson, the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, stated he spoke with the members regarding their "tone and message." However, he has declined to publicly condemn the statements.
