Devendra Nath Mahato Joins Exam Reform March While Fasting
Devendra Nath Mahato joined a protest march in Ranchi to demand reforms for exam irregularities while continuing a nine-day hunger strike.
Political leader Devendra Nath Mahato joined the JPSC-JSCC Reform Morcha's Vidhan Sabha Gherao march on August 10, 2026, to protest irregularities in state exams. Mahato, the leader of the Jharkhand Loktantrik Krantikari Morcha, arrived at the march via ambulance after conducting a nine-day hunger strike at Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium.
Mahato demanded that the state government address student grievances and specifically urged Chief Minister Hemant Soren to avoid police action or violence against the protesters. He noted that the timing of the march coincided with the Chief Minister's birthday.
Mahato stated he would not end his fast until the government agrees to the demands. He warned that if the government fails to act, it will be remembered as the one which "killed democracy."
