Russia and Ukraine Exchange Massive Drone Strikes
Russia struck residential areas in Kharkiv while Ukraine launched a massive wave of drones targeting industrial facilities across 13 Russian regions.
The Military of Russia and the Government of Ukraine exchanged large-scale drone attacks between October 27 and October 28, 2026, targeting both civilian infrastructure and industrial sites.
Russian forces launched jet-powered drones at Kharkiv and 20 surrounding settlements, injuring at least 14 people. In Kharkiv's Osnovianskyi district, a drone hit an apartment building, sparking a fire that covered 2,500 square meters and damaging an industrial facility and several high-rise buildings. The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported five injuries in the city, including a four-year-old child, while other regional casualties were reported in Derhachi, Borova, and Hrushivka.
In response, Ukraine launched a massive wave of drone attacks across 13 Russian regions. The Russian Ministry of Defense claimed to have intercepted 531 fixed-wing drones, including strikes over Moscow Oblast. Reported targets included the Novolipetsk Steel Plant and the Azot chemical plant in Novomoskovsk. While Tula Oblast Governor Dmitry Milyaev confirmed damage to infrastructure and residential buildings in Novomoskovsk, Lipetsk Oblast Governor Igor Artamonov denied reports of a major fire at the steel plant, stating that debris sparked a contained fire in a wooded area.
