Nvidia and Broadcom Deliver Massive AI Chip Returns

Nvidia and Broadcom report surging AI chip revenues and significant investor returns, with Nvidia reaching record quarterly revenue of 81.6 billion dollars.

Nvidia and Broadcom Inc. have both generated substantial returns for investors during the artificial intelligence chip boom, though their growth trajectories differ by timeframe. A 1,000 dollar investment in Nvidia in mid-2021 would currently be worth approximately 10,100 dollars, while a similar investment in Broadcom would be worth 9,100 dollars. Despite Nvidia's longer-term lead, Broadcom outperformed Nvidia over the most recent 12 months.

Financial reports indicate a massive scale of growth for both firms. Nvidia reported record revenue of 81.6 billion dollars in its most recent fiscal quarter, driven by a 92 percent increase in data center revenue. Broadcom's AI chip revenue grew 143 percent year-over-year to 10.8 billion dollars during the same period. Broadcom also diversified its business through the acquisition of VMware and recently secured a multiyear manufacturing commitment with Apple exceeding 30 billion dollars.

Market valuations currently reflect different premiums for the two companies. Nvidia trades at approximately 20 times forward earnings, whereas Broadcom trades at about 25 times forward earnings.
