Jharkhand Students Issue Deadline to Hemant Soren Over Exam Flaws

Chief Minister Hemant Soren promised systemic reforms and impartial investigations on August 15 to address student protests over alleged irregularities in recruitment examinations. Speaking during state-level Independence Day celebrations in Ranchi, Soren vowed to implement a time-bound annual academic calendar and technology-secured tests to ensure that talent is not wasted due to the "mafia."

Student protesters, who have been demonstrating for 22 days, initially paused their demands to participate in a Tiranga Yatra marking the 80th Independence Day. However, student leaders later issued an August 18 deadline for the government to cancel the JSSC-CGL and JPSC 11th–13th examinations, scrap tests conducted by the TDPL agency, and initiate a CBI inquiry.

Student leader Ravinder Paswan warned that failure to meet these demands would lead to a mass siege of the Chief Minister's residence on August 20 and the burning of effigies of Soren and Rahul Gandhi. Some protesters have further demanded Soren's resignation and the withdrawal of Congress party support from the JMM-led coalition. Soren acknowledged that the allegations have shaken public trust and urged students to have faith in the government's commitment to a transparent examination process.
