France Begins On-Road Testing of Tesla Full Self Driving
France has launched on-road tests of Tesla's Full Self Driving system using two vehicles to evaluate the technology for potential European Union approval.
The government of France has begun on-road testing of Tesla's Full Self Driving (FSD) system using two provided vehicles. French Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot announced the initiative following technical discussions with Elon Musk to address French concerns regarding driver attention warnings and speed limitations.
France will conduct independent tests to verify data already provided by Tesla and the Netherlands, with the evaluation expected to conclude by mid to late September. This process serves as a precursor to a potential European Union bloc-wide vote on the technology, which may take place in October or early December.
While FSD can steer, brake, and accelerate, it remains a driver assistance system requiring human intervention. Other European nations, including Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, and Lithuania, have followed the lead of the Netherlands road authority RDW, which granted provisional approval for the system in April.
