Jeff Bezos Joins Amit Bhatia Consortium for Liverpool FC Stake

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is in talks to join an Amit Bhatia-led consortium seeking a minority stake in Liverpool Football Club from Fenway Sports Group.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is in talks to join an investment consortium led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia to acquire a strategic minority stake in Liverpool Football Club. Fenway Sports Group, the U.S.-based owners of the club, confirmed they were approached by the group regarding the investment.

The consortium has reportedly made a provisional offer of £1.35 billion for approximately 30% of the club, which would value the organization at roughly £4.5 billion, or over $6 billion. The move would represent the first entry into elite sports ownership for Bezos. Financial backing for the bid is believed to be provided by billionaire steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, Bhatia's father-in-law.

To comply with Premier League rules and facilitate the transaction, Bhatia transferred his shares and stepped down from his role as director and co-owner of Queens Park Rangers on July 21. This potential deal follows a 2023 transaction in which Fenway Sports Group sold a minority stake to the investment firm Dynasty to fund debt reduction and infrastructure.
