Constellation Brands Beats Q2 Estimates and Acquires SpikedAde
Constellation Brands exceeded second-quarter profit and sales estimates and acquired vodka-based beverage company SpikedAde for an initial $75 million.
Constellation Brands reported second-quarter net sales of $2.63 billion and adjusted earnings of $3.74 per share for the period ending August 31, exceeding analyst estimates for both profit and sales. The company attributed this growth to resilient demand for its beer brands, specifically Modelo Especial and Victoria, which were bolstered by major sporting events such as the NBA Finals and the FIFA World Cup.
To expand its footprint in the ready-to-drink category, the company acquired the vodka-based beverage company SpikedAde. The deal includes an initial payment of $75 million, with the potential for performance-based payments totaling up to $278 million over the next five years.
Despite the quarterly performance, Constellation Brands lowered its annual operating margin forecast to between 31% and 32%. Following the announcement, the company's shares declined 4.5% in extended trading.
