The Standing Committee of the 14th National People's Congress convened in Beijing on August 25, 2026, for its 24th session to review a wide array of legislative drafts and government reports. Presided over by Chairman Zhao Leji, the plenary meeting included the first reading of a draft law designed to combat cross-border corruption and revisions to the Road Traffic Safety Law, which now features a dedicated chapter on autonomous vehicles.

Lawmakers also deliberated on a healthcare security law focused on long-term care insurance, a law on farmland protection, and revisions to the Agriculture, Water, and Enterprise Bankruptcy laws. The session included a review of a draft revision to the National Defense Mobilization Law and an extradition treaty between China and Hungary.

Beyond legislative drafts, the committee reviewed reports regarding government debt management, budget execution, and the 2026 plan for national economic and social development.
