Gulf Financial Leaders Attend IMF-World Bank Meetings in Bangkok

The Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait and the Central Bank of the UAE are engaging with global partners at the 2026 IMF-World Bank Annual Meetings.

Financial institutions from the Gulf region are participating in the 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group in Bangkok, Thailand, running from October 12 to 18. The event serves as a hub for bilateral diplomacy and strategic financial planning among global regulators and commercial banks.

Bank of Bahrain and Kuwait (BBK) is utilizing the meetings to strengthen ties with international financial institutions and explore trade and investment financing. As a Platinum Sponsor for the Bahrain Association of Banks' annual reception, BBK is working to connect senior Bahraini banking representatives with global leaders. Group CEO Yaser Alsharifi stated that these partnerships are essential for supporting clients' international activities and reinforcing Bahrain's standing as a regional financial center.

Simultaneously, the Central Bank of the UAE conducted bilateral meetings with the Bank of Korea and the Monetary Authority of Singapore to enhance financial sector cooperation and exchange expertise. During these sessions, international officials cited the UAE's financial system as a model for stability and resilience.

Broader panel discussions at the summit are addressing systemic global risks, including geopolitical fragmentation, cyber threats, and the impact of artificial intelligence on macroeconomic stability. Other sessions are focusing on the integration of private capital into healthcare systems and the use of data-driven supervisory methods to identify financial vulnerabilities.
