Injured Delhi Police Families Seek Supreme Court Justice

Families of injured Delhi Police personnel held a press conference on July 31 at the Constitution Club of India to demand justice and parliamentary discussion regarding violence during the Sansad Chalo protest march on July 20. The protest, led by the Cockroach Janata Party and students demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over a NEET paper leak, centered around Jantar Mantar and marched toward Parliament.

Relatives of the officers, including the family of an Assistant Commissioner of Police and the daughter of a Sub-Inspector, alleged that antisocial and mischievous elements infiltrated the student demonstration. They reported that over 250 police personnel were injured and government property, including 110 barricades and 25 vehicles, was vandalized. Specific accounts describe officers being dragged by mobs and attacked with stones, bottles, shoes, and flower pots. One Sub-Inspector was reportedly nearly lynched near the Jantar Mantar stage, leaving him unconscious for four hours.

In response to social media criticism and legal complaints filed by the protesters, the families have approached the Supreme Court of India. They seek official acknowledgement of the trauma endured by the officers' kin and a legal remedy for the injuries sustained during the clashes.
