Andy Beshear Claims He Received Reports of Mitch McConnell's Death
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear says he received calls from non-state agencies suggesting Senator Mitch McConnell had died during a month-long hospitalization in June.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear revealed he received two phone calls from unnamed non-state agencies suggesting that Senator Mitch McConnell had died during a prolonged hospitalization. McConnell was admitted to a hospital on June 14 after being found unconscious at his Washington residence. While early reports suggested a possible cardiac arrest, McConnell's office later stated he had pneumonia and denied that he suffered a stroke or heart attack.
Following weeks of silence, McConnell's office released a photograph on July 12 showing the senator holding a newspaper. Despite accusations that the image was AI-generated, forensic analysis and metadata confirmed it was authentic. Beshear described the written update as a step in the right direction but argued it was insufficient.
Beshear has called for greater transparency, including a video or phone appearance, to prove McConnell retains the capacity to serve his term through January 2027. He sent a formal letter seeking an update but has received no response from McConnell's staff. Beshear stated that Kentucky citizens deserve answers and suggested he may seek a replacement for the senator if adequate proof of well-being is not provided.
