Piyush Goyal Says AI Will Increase High-Paying Jobs in India
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal asserts that artificial intelligence will create more jobs in India than it replaces, focusing on high-paying roles and new skill sets.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal stated on October 15 that artificial intelligence is likely to create more jobs in India than it replaces. Speaking to students at Shri Ram College of Commerce, Goyal argued that while AI will change the nature of employment, it will ultimately increase the availability of high-paying roles.
Goyal compared the current AI transition to the growth of India's information technology sector during the 1990s and 2000s. He noted that workers will need to acquire new skills in areas such as cybersecurity and agent development to adapt to the shifting landscape. He specifically highlighted that human-centric sectors, including tourism and sports, will remain beyond the reach of AI.
The minister urged the country to develop practical AI-based solutions for businesses and citizens. He expressed confidence that India will remain the fastest-growing large economy for the next 20 to 25 years, citing the nation's young population and resilient supply chains as primary drivers of this growth.
