Iran Challenges US Aviation Sanctions as Poland Boosts Air Defenses
Iran has filed legal challenges against US aviation sanctions while Poland deploys Patriot batteries to counter Russian hybrid threats along its eastern border.
The Government of Iran has filed a formal complaint with the International Civil Aviation Organisation and a case with the International Court of Justice to challenge United States sanctions on its aviation industry. The US measures, which took effect last Wednesday, target the Iranian aviation sector and threaten penalties for companies supporting Iranian airlines. These restrictions have already forced the cancellation of international flights, including services to the United Arab Emirates, though flights to Russia, China, and Pakistan remain operational.
In a separate security development, Poland is increasing air defense measures along its eastern border with Ukraine. Prime Minister Donald Tusk warned that Russia is planning hybrid strikes using drones or rockets against European countries. This follows a Russian missile entering Polish airspace in July and drone explosions near the Dorohusk-Yahodyn crossing on September 13.
Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced the deployment of Patriot batteries to border regions to protect against potential strikes. The move comes as border communities like Dorohusk experience air raid sirens and evacuations in response to the heightened threat of Russian hybrid attacks.
