Saudi Arabia Accuses UAE of Undermining National Security

Saudi Arabia has accused the United Arab Emirates of undermining its national security, marking a severe rift between the two Gulf allies. The tension escalated into Saudi airstrikes against a UAE-linked shipment in Yemen and demands for Emirati forces to exit the country. Riyadh is specifically concerned by the UAE's independent foreign policy, including its support for the separatist Southern Transitional Council in Yemen and Emirati activities in Syria, Sudan, and the Horn of Africa.

Relations further deteriorated following a misunderstanding in which the UAE believed Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman requested U.S. sanctions against Abu Dhabi regarding the Sudanese civil war. In response to the pressure, the UAE has pledged to withdraw its troops from Yemen, though the Southern Transitional Council continues to face intense Saudi military pressure.

Despite these hostilities, the two nations are seen as unlikely to engage in a direct full-scale conflict. This restraint is attributed to shared economic priorities and mutual investments within the United States.
