Shopify Revenue Rises 34% as AI Traffic Triples

Shopify reported a 34% revenue increase to $3.6 billion for the second quarter, driven by a surge in AI-referred traffic and storefront orders.

Shopify reported strong second-quarter financial results on Wednesday, defying analyst concerns that AI agents might disrupt the e-commerce platform. The company revealed that orders originating from AI searches and AI-referred traffic to merchant storefronts both tripled year over year. Furthermore, new buyers arriving through AI channels placed orders at nearly twice the rate of those from other channels.

Financially, the company's revenue rose 34% year over year to $3.6 billion, while gross merchandise volume increased 32% to $115.6 billion. Operating income grew 68% to $488 million, and free cash flow reached $654 million. Shopify shares rose approximately 17% to about $144 following the announcement.

President Harley Finkelstein described the quarterly performance as a significant success, characterizing the results as a monster quarter.
