China Condemns U.S. Blacklisting of 88 Research Institutions

The Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China condemned a decision by the United States Department of Defense to blacklist 130 foreign academic and research institutions, 88 of which are Chinese. The U.S. move, intended to curb unauthorized technology transfers to countries of concern, includes defense-related academies and universities such as Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Beijing characterized the sanctions as an arbitrary expansion of national security concepts that weaponizes and politicizes scientific research cooperation. The ministry accused Washington of erecting discriminatory barriers and making groundless smears against Chinese organizations. Beijing warned that these curbs undermine global innovation and hinder scientific exchange between the world's two largest economies.

In response, the ministry urged the United States to rectify its actions and provide fair, non-discriminatory treatment to the affected institutions. The Chinese government vowed to implement necessary measures to safeguard the legitimate rights of these research entities and ensure a stable environment for international cooperation in science, technology, and innovation.
