Granbury Residents Walk Out Over Data Center Recall
Granbury residents walked out of a city council meeting after Mayor Jim Jarratt refused to resign amid recall petitions over a data center project.
Dozens of residents walked out of a Granbury city council meeting on September 28, 2026, after city leaders defended their records against recall petitions. The conflict centers on the city's annexation and rezoning of roughly 2,100 to 2,200 acres near Meadow Wood Road for industrial use to facilitate Project Patriot, a data center project.
Residents allege that city leaders failed to disclose industrial plans before the annexation and rezoning votes. More than 1,300 signatures have been collected to recall Jim Jarratt and four council members, surpassing the 15% voter threshold required by the city charter. The walkout occurred after Councilman Skip Overdier argued against the recall drive.
Mayor Jarratt refused to resign, stating that the petitions lack substance and specific accusations. While petitioners are pushing for a November ballot, city officials indicated that the earliest possible recall election would be in May. A separate lawsuit concerning the data center was filed in April.
