Former Maine Senate president and logger Troy Jackson accepted the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate in Bangor, replacing Graham Platner after Platner withdrew amid sexual assault allegations and other scandals. Republican allies launched an immediate coordinated effort to defeat Jackson. The Senate Leadership Fund initiated a six-figure advertising campaign characterizing Jackson as a scandal-plagued political insider with a history of mortgage fraud and workplace conflict. Senator Collins supported these efforts by claiming Jackson adopted a democratic socialist platform similar to that of Platner.

Financial disparities mark the current state of the race, with Collins holding approximately $11 million compared to Jackson's $2 million. Republican-aligned groups, including the Senate Leadership Fund and Pine Tree Results PAC, are outspending Democratic groups on advertising. In response, Democratic-aligned groups such as Affordable Maine are targeting Collins over her opposition to a ban on congressional stock trading and her support for Brett Kavanaugh.
