Telangana CM Seeks Central Help for Irrigation Projects
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy urged Union Minister C.R. Patil to resolve inter-state water disputes and expedite environmental clearances for several Telangana irrigation schemes.
A. Revanth Reddy, the Chief Minister of Telangana, met with Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil in New Delhi on Tuesday to request central government intervention in resolving inter-state irrigation hurdles. Reddy urged the central government to facilitate a dialogue with the Maharashtra government to expedite approvals for the Tummidihetti barrage on the Godavari River. He specifically requested an agreement to construct the barrage at a Full Reservoir Level of +152 meters to enable gravity-based water supply to the Yellampalli project and lower overall costs.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister sought immediate environmental clearances for the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, Dindi Lift Irrigation Scheme, Sitarama Sagar Multipurpose Project, and Gauravelli reservoirs, stating that ongoing delays are increasing construction costs.
Additional discussions focused on pending clearances from the Central Water Commission for the Sammakka Sagar project. Reddy also addressed the installation of a telemetry system by the Krishna River Management Board, noting that Telangana has already deposited 4.15 crore rupees for the first phase of the project.
